ABFBA recovery guide

Warehouse appointment recovery for missed import container deliveries

When a driver misses a warehouse appointment, the decision is no longer only port drayage. The shipment may need a new receiving slot, yard hold, re-delivery, transload or a split delivery plan.

First checks

Before choosing a recovery path, confirm whether the warehouse, driver and container can still be controlled.

Receiver status

Confirm whether the warehouse will still unload, reschedule the same day, require a new appointment, or reject the load completely.

Container location

Check whether the container is still at the terminal, already on chassis, waiting near the receiver, or must move to a yard.

LFD and return clock

Compare terminal free time, yard time, chassis use, empty return limits and the earliest possible new appointment.

Recovery paths

The right fix depends on whether the freight should remain in the container or be handled.

Same-day attempt

Wait or re-slot

Use only when the warehouse confirms it can still receive and driver wait time is acceptable.

Short hold

Yard storage and re-delivery

Move the container to a yard, wait for a new appointment and re-deliver when the receiver is ready.

Freight handling

Transload recovery

Unload, palletize or stage freight when the receiver cannot take the full box or needs a different delivery format.

Multiple receivers

Split outbound delivery

Use a warehouse staging plan when freight must be sent to more than one final destination.

Quote details

Send the facts that decide whether recovery is possible.

Useful details include terminal, container number, LFD, current appointment time, receiver address, whether the driver is already loaded, gross weight, commodity, unload type and any new appointment options.
